Our sustainable solutions
At BASF, we have developed a range of processes, tools and systems that enable us to realistically and transparently show the sustainability contribution of our products. These include TripleS (Sustainable Solution Steering), a method reviewed by independent external auditors.
TripleS (Sustainable Solution Steering) is BASF’s approach to systematically improve the sustainability performance of our portfolio. This method ensures that our products are aligned with key transformation topics such as climate change and energy, resource efficiency and circular economy, enabling us to meet the increasing sustainability demands in our markets through innovative solutions.
Our product portfolio is now classified into five sustainability-related Triple S segments: Pioneer, Contributor, Standard, Monitored, and Challenged. These categories reflect the varying degrees to which our products contribute to sustainability, from leading solutions that drive transformation to those requiring close monitoring or improvement
BASF goal is to increase the sales share of the Pioneer and Contributor groups. These products contribute positively to sustainability throughout the value chain and are classified under the new KPI "Sustainable-Future Solutions”. By 2030, more than 50% of BASF’s sales relevant to TripleS are targeted to come from Sustainable-Future Solutions (2024: 46.3%).

The definition of "Sustainable-Future Solutions" is based on the balance between the three dimensions of sustainability - environment, society and economy. We are committed to finding sustainable solutions by connecting creative minds while sourcing and producing responsibly.
With the update of the TripleS methodology in 2023, BASF is fostering developments in transformation topics linked to carbon management like Climate Change & Energy, Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy. Realization and adaptation of processes according to regulatory environmental authorities to improve overall assessment processes. We intend to early identify solutions which in future are likely to be affected by regulations and to avoid negative market perception
