BASF Industrial Formulators has offerings for the leather formulators, addressing all steps of wet processing treatment and finishing for hides and leather. We have Methane Sulfonic Acid for low salt or no salt deliming, tanning and re-tanning (Lutropur® MSA range), Chelating Agents for deliming and improving dyeing effects (Trilon® M series), Surfactants & Emulsifiers with a wide range of HLB values used for extensive degreasing and lasting fat-liquoring (Lutensol® range), Water Soluble Polymers for deep cleaning and level dyeing, boost brilliancy and improve dyeing quality (Sokalan® range), Additives for fat-liquoring formulation, Emulsifiers for improving hand feel, leather protection and fastness.

Emulsifying
Emulsifiers are used to create and stabilize mixtures of two or more immiscible liquids. They are surface-active substances composed of hydrophilic and lipophilic segments, reducing coalescence and stabilizing droplet formation.

The choice of emulsifier depends on the emulsion type and desired performance characteristics.

Dispersing
Solid particles dispersed in water tend to re-agglomerate if particle-particle repulsion is insufficient. This spontaneous process, known as flocculation, leads to instability in dispersions.
Dispersing agents prevent flocculation by stabilizing solid-liquid systems.

Control of Metal Ions  
Our products regulate the behavior of metal ions through targeted interactions. Chelating agents, water-soluble polymers, and silicates bind unwanted ions to prevent scale formation.

For controlled metal deposition and the creation of glossy, well-adhering surfaces, electroplating additives and methanesulfonic acid (MSA) are essential.
