Sokalan® Eco GP 790 L
Anti-redeposition performance without compromising sustainability

Consumers simultaneously expect sustainability and performance in their laundry detergents. Now you can achieve both.

Sokalan® Eco GP 790 L is a modified polysaccharide approved for use in Safer Choice products that offers the power of acrylate chemistry without compromising your sustainability claims. Compared to traditional synthetic incumbents made from non-renewable feedstocks, Sokalan Eco GP 790 L is not only readily biodegradable[1] but also guarantees a biobased Carbon Content of 79%[2]. The biogenic carbon in Sokalan Eco GP 790 L is part of a natural cycle that releases no new CO2 into the atmosphere and can enable product manufacturers to lower their Scope 3 emissions. But Sokalan Eco GP 790 L is not only more sustainable, it also offers performance parity when used in laundry formulations – while still being a cost-effective alternative to polyacrylates.

[1] "Readily biodegradable” means ≥ 60% degradation within 28 days, as measured by OECD 301F method.
[2] Measured by ASTM method D6866.

Glucopon® 480
The Laundry APG

Alkyl polyglycosides (APGs) are biobased [1] and biodegradable [2] nonionic surfactants that are made up of a sugar molecule attached to fatty chains. These 1,4-dioxane-free3 ingredients have historically found a home in hard surface cleaning because of their excellent streak free performance.

To enable APGs beyond their traditional home care applications, our experts at BASF have developed Glucopon 480 – the laundry APG. Glucopon 480 is a fully biobased[1] and readily biodegradable [2] surfactant that offers a dioxane-free functional alternative to ethoxylated surfactants. In our model detergent, we saw that Glucopon 480 offers performance parity to alcohol ethoxylates in both warm and cold washes when used on an equal actives basis.4 Our study showed that Glucopon 480 even enabled nonionic surfactant reduction in liquid laundry formulations while maintaining close to parity performance. This surfactant reduction also translates to significant PCF savings, with a PCF reduction of 39% in the model detergent.[5] As a dioxane-free surfactant approved for use in Safer Choice products, Glucopon 480 offers a powerful clean while enabling product manufacturers to reduce their Scope 3 emissions.

[1] Renewable carbon index was calculated to be 100%.
[2] "Readily biodegradable” means ≥ 60% degradation within 28 days. Measured by the OECD 301 methods.
[3] Glucopon products do not contain ethylene oxide, therefore no 1,4-dioxane is expected.
[4] Full Scale medium fill 15°C & 30°C, Maytag HE machine, 1.2 g/L NA Model Formulation, 1.1 mM water hardness (4:1:8 Ca:Mg:HCO3-), Complex food stain set, dE measured on Mach5+.
[5] Model formulation actives concentration may vary, 32% Glucopon 480 inclusion on an actives basis in this scenario. PCF excludes biogenic CO2 removals and is stated as Cradle to Gate.

Sustainability

How much greenhouse gas emissions are associated with a product along its life cycle? This question has become increasingly important over the past years and a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) can provide the transparency you need. We offer PCFs for much of our portfolio.

Sokalan® Eco GP 790 L: Where Sustainability Meets Performance

As consumers demand for sustainable cleaning products increases, formulators face the challenge of balancing cost, performance, and environmental impact. Polymers like polyacrylates, commonly used in laundry, are effective but not sustainable. BASF's Sokalan Eco GP 790 L addresses this issue by being 79% biobased, biodegradable, and cost-effective while maintaining performance parity with traditional petrochemical-based polymers.
